City Park News

July 29, 2021

Sunday we’ll look at three ways you can make the most of the rest of your life. Life is short, and we’re to live with the end in sight. Let’s make the most of the days God gives us.

Join us this Sunday at 10am in-person or online.

Take a Hike!

Ladies! Please join us for a hike at the Dunraven trailhead (near Glen Haven) in the Big Thompson Canyon this Saturday.

We will carpool from Southgate Church parking lot at 8am to try to avoid the rain. This is an easy to moderate hike that runs along the Thompson River with gradual elevation gain. There will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy each other’s company in God’s creation. We will hike for about an hour out and back (depending on weather)  then enjoy homemade cinnamon rolls in Drake on the way down. We plan to be back to Fort Collins by noon, and could have a car that comes back earlier.

Text or call Amy at 970-310-1733 to let her know you can come and to order your cinnamon roll! Feel free to invite others.

Business Meeting This Sunday

Please plan to stay after church this Sunday, August 1,  for a brief business meeting. The agenda will include:
  • New deacon vote (Jeff Braley)
  • New member approval
  • Budget overview

Bon Appétit!

For this Sunday’s “Breakfast on the Lawn” we will unleash the quiche!
Come early to reconnect,  9:30-10am.

Throwback Sunday: August 8th, 6PM

Did you grow up in a church that had Sunday night services? Where friends sat side by side in pews. Babies cried. People praised God off key. The church took time to hear from God and one another. There were testimonies of God at work.

If you didn’t, come experience it for the first time on Sunday night, August 8. We will step back into the past and have a good old-fashioned time of singing through the decades along with hearing stories of God at work. Come celebrate, remember and reconnect. Come be edified and encouraged.

Because who doesn’t love a good story? Stories are made to be told. Come tell yours and sing off key!

Children (thru pre-k) will have childcare. Others are welcome in the service.
Ice-cream sundaes and rootbeer floats served afterwards on the lawn.

City Park Kids Needs YOU!

Come join a team where you impact young lives for eternity! We have a place for you whether your gifts include hospitality, snuggling babies, crafting with preschoolers, or jumping around with ten year olds. Please contact Jess Howe at jess@citypark.church to see how you can be involved in this ministry.

Executive Pastor Update

We have a candidate for Executive Pastor coming in two weeks to spend a few days visiting Fort Collins and City Park Church. Please be in prayer as we continue the search process, and stay tuned for more information.

Imagine buying someone the perfect gift…only to see them never use it.
Now imagine how God must feel when we don’t use the spiritual gifts he has given specifically to us. Join us this Sunday to learn how to discover and use your unique gift from God!

Join us this Sunday at 10am in-person or online.

Breakfast on the Lawn This Sunday

Come early and reconnect over breakfast this Sunday…we’ll power up at 9:30 with a Parfait Bar under the tent (yogurt, fresh fruit and granola)!

Stephen Leader Commissioning

This Sunday, July 13, our congregation will commission Dawn Tipton as a new Stephen Leader to oversee our Stephen Ministry here at City Park Church. Stephen Leaders lead, train, and supervise the Stephen Ministers who provide care for those who are hurting and in need. Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Dawn to our Stephen Ministry Leadership Team!

Save the Date

In anticipation of students’ return to CSU, we will tag team with Christian Challenge (led by Wade & Carol Pacheco) to prayer walk around the campus on the evening of July 29. More details to come.

Peru Update

July 15-24, Mark and Nancy Nelson will be traveling to Lima, Chongos Alto and Chacapampa, Peru with the Peruvian Team.  They request your prayers for wisdom in decision making, safety in travel and health and a great groundwork to be laid for the August start of Antonio Mendoza’s ministry in that mountain region.

In August, Brad Gilliland and a few others will be traveling to Peru for the commissioning service of  Antonio Mendoza.

June 9, 2021

Perhaps the greatest sin of the American church is flipping
The Great Commision (telling others about Christ) to
The Great Omission (staying silent about Christ).

If you need help knowing how ordinary people share their faith, let’s learn together from Romans 10.

Join us this Sunday at 10am in-person or online, as we continue our series Unashamed, from the book of Romans.

Love Your Bible Event

This Sunday, June 13!

Matt Lockhart, editor of Kregel’s Treasury of Illustrated Bible Stories and author of 50 Bible Stories Every Adult Should Know, will be in the lobby with a display of stunning vintage art, illustrating beloved stories from the Bible.

Plan to come browse and enjoy this beautiful display! Bibles for the whole family will be also availabe to purchase.

Lunch on the Lawn

THIS SUNDAY, along with the Love Your Bible display, we are inviting everyone to stay for a boxed lunch. Plan for a relaxing time of fellowship and conversation as we gather outside to enjoy a meal together (provided by CPC) after church. Watch for more info coming your way about this and other fun summer events at City Park Church!

Cross Training Sports Camp

Cross Training Sports Camp starts this Monday, June 14. Please be in prayer for the staff, volunteers, and campers, that they would experience God in life-changing ways throughout the week, and would come to know Him deeply and personally.

We are in need of one more medical volunteer. If you can help, please email brad@citypark.church.

Dear CPC,

Thank you for praying for the ministry in Chacapampa, Peru.   God has heard our prayers and we have some exciting news to share.

We’ve been working with Peruvian Pastor Oscar Loyola for about  a year to find a Peruvian church planting missionary to move to the area and help Liz.  She’s been working alone there for 9 years.  Pastor Loyola has a long history of supporting and sending missionaries from his church and after much prayer and consideration, it seems the right Peruvian pastor has been found.

In August, veteran Andean church planter,  Pastor Antonio Mendoza will be joining the work in the Chongos Alto/ Chacapampa area.  Chongos Alto is the commercial center of the district and where he’ll be making his home.

Please pray for a smooth transition and strong start to Pastor Mendoza’s missionary/ pastoral role.  Also, his wife recently was promoted to Glory due to Covid so this is his first endeavor without her.   We praise God for His provision and covet your prayers going forward.

Mark Nelson

p.s. Liz is recovering from Covid.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Stepping Up – A Call to Courageous Manhood

We will be launching an 8-week men’s study on Tuesday nights starting June 1st, here at CPC.

In this study, we will identify 5 stages of man’s journey through life – boyhood, adolescence, manhood, mentor, and patriarch – and we will examine man’s responsibilities at each step.

All of us need help in this journey and this study is a powerful, engaging resource that will inspire and move us closer to being the men God has called us to be.

Email Ed Hermsen or call him at 970-690-8276 for more info or to sign up.

Ringenberg Family

John & Katie Ringenberg have been members of City Park Church for several years, and John has served faithfully as both an elder and as the chair of the Personnel Ministry Team. John recently accepted a position in the District Attorney’s office in Brighton, and he and his family have relocated to that area.

We are excited for John & Katie and their children, but we will miss them dearly here at CPC! Please pray for the Ringenbergs during this time of transition for their family.

Mask Policy

Restrictions regarding masks and social distancing have lifted in Colorado. We are following suit here at CPC, and masks are no longer required in the building. Please be sensitive to the needs and comfort levels of others and keep a mask handy for situations that may call for you to put one on. Thank you!

As God’s child, He works all things for your good. God is for you.
You are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ. Nothing can separate you from God’s love. Let’s look this Sunday at some of the most cherished verses of the Bible, found in Romans 8.

Graduate Recognition

This Sunday, we want to recognize and honor our graduates. If you are graduating (or know someone at CPC who is), whether from high school, college, graduate school or a certificate program, please let us know by emailing valerie@citypark.church by Friday. We want every graduate to be included!

Stepping Up – A Call to Courageous Manhood

We will be launching an 8-week men’s study on Tuesday nights starting June 1st, here at CPC.

As men, all of us face decisions in life that demand courage. Big or little, complex or straightforward, these choices – let’s call them battles – matter a great deal.  One courageous choice leads to another.

What would it really look like to have a life that’s led and controlled by the Holy Spirit? Would I experience more peace? Less stress? Greater purpose? Fewer anxieties? The answer is “yes” to all of the above.
Romans 8 will show us the way.

Operation Sandbag

Servant hearts and  bodies are needed to help our mountain communities near Glen Haven. There are hundreds of homes that are going to be in danger of flooding due to the fires last year. The fire caused the land in this area to not absorb water, so Serve 6.8 is making sandbags to provide to the people there in case of flooding. The good news is that Serve 6.8 invested in machines that make the sandbags so it is very easy to do! We need 25 men/women from City Park Church to help.

Ever feel like there’s a civil war going on in your soul?
Part of you wants to live like Christ, but the other part rebels against that. If that’s you, welcome to the world of the apostle Paul. There’s no such thing as being battle-free, but there is victory we can find in Christ.

Join us Sunday at 10am in-person or online.

Desire To Be Baptized?

Immediately following worship this Sunday, April 25, there will be a 30-minute class for those interested in taking this next step with Christ. Please join us in Room 315 (just behind the sanctuary) immediately after the worship service.

April 14, 2021

The Bible says in Romans 7:6, “Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.”
There’s a new, better way to live! Let’s discover the joy of living in the Spirit this coming Sunday.

Join us Sunday at 10am in-person or online.

Noah Adams Update

On March 28, CPC voted unanimously in favor of bringing Noah Adams on as our part time youth pastor, knowing that the goal was to bring him to full time as soon as possible. We are excited to let you know that Noah will be joining the staff full time right from the beginning! Given his considerable experience, gifts, and abilities, along with our current needs and the upcoming departure of Joe Creighton, it became apparent to the leadership that this is the wisest move for City Park Church, and for Noah and his family. We are looking forward to welcoming them here very soon!

Ramadan Prayer Guide

The 30 days of Ramadan started on April 12, and we want to take this opportunity as a church to pray for a specific segment of the Muslim population. Ramadan is a time when Muslims focus on fasting and prayer. We want to pray that God will reveal Truth to them as they pray.

If you would be willing to join us in this, just click on the button below and you will receive a link to info on the specific people we will be praying for, as well as a link to the prayer guide.

Special Offering to focus on CPC International Missions

Through April, we want to focus our annual mission offering toward three special missional efforts that we directly support at CPC.

First, we have a unique matching gift opportunity toward our Peru mission effort in Chacapampa for Pastor Oscar, Liz, and a future missionary couple. For Peru, we would like to raise an additional $6,000 that will be matched for the next couple of years.  For anything over $6,000, we would use those funds to shore up our commitments to our own CPC missionaries serving in Southeast Asia and in the Middle East (names withheld for security reasons).

From now through the end of April, any gift marked for missions will be directed toward these efforts. Thanks for your consideration and for giving generously to CPC international missions.

Easter Community Event!

We had over 175 registrants, close to 800 participants, and 41 people who expressed an interest in knowing more about our church.

Follow-up conversations are happening this week — a father and his sons who want to know about Jesus, a mother and her daughters who want to know about baptism, a young adult and a mother and her daughter who both came back for our Easter service and now want to know about having a relationship with Christ, an International family who called the church this week and desire to attend CPC, and the stories go on!

This is ALL thanks to the Spirit of God at work in us and around us! God is so good!

We Are A “D.I.Y” Church

It’s hard to think that Snow-maggedon was only weeks ago. You may have noticed green blades of grass popping up all around City Park Church. That means there will be an ongoing need for weekly lawn work. This is where you can BELONG.

We will need a team to cut grass, edge sidewalks, apply fertilizer, pull weeds, trim shrubs, knock down cobwebs, pick up debris, and a myriad of other things. Obviously, “the more the merrier.” The needs are very flexible and can easily accommodate your schedule. Equipment and tools are provided too.

Jump in from May to October by texting Joe C at 1-970-404-0026. He will arrange for follow-up with you.

City Park Men’s Breakfast

Saturday, April 10, 2021, 8:00 am – 9:00 am, Shaffer Hall.

As we are told in Hebrews: This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing. In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning. (Hebrews 10:25, The Passion Translation)

Lets enjoy some fellowship of men, a great word, and of course some breakfast.

Get out of the house and join us for fresh “contactless” food, a powerful story, easy talk and encouragement from your brothers.

Mark your calendars. Invite another man. Join us.

Ramadan Prayer Guide

As we celebrated Easter, remembering Jesus’ victory over death, we also remember that there are many people who haven’t had the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus. One of the largest groups are those who follow Islam.

With the 30 days of Ramadan starting soon, we want to take this opportunity as a church to pray for a specific segment of the Muslim population. Ramadan is a time when Muslims focus on fasting and prayer. We want to pray that God will reveal Truth to them as they pray.
